Alaina’s Baby Shower: July 2011

Baby Shoe’s Baby Shower

I am currently busy planning one of my best friends’ baby shower!  Monroe Emerson Shoemaker is going to have one heck of baby shower thrown in his honor!

Above is the invitation.  I got them for $4 for 8 (75% off) at Paper Affair on sale!  They are Anna Griffin and beautiful.  I would definately recommend always looking at the sale section first.  It seems that they tend to not be the “rejects”, but rather just a few months old…

I designed the envelopes in Adobe Illustrator.  I think they are beautiful.

I ordered custom stamps for the invitations… at  For 20 stamps it is $18.95 + 2.99 shipping (7-11 business days, so order early!) – it comes out to $21.94.  Cute idea… not sure if people will notice.  But I will, and I am throwing the party.  I judge invitations very carefully, and I am sure others do as well.  It is all about presentation…

I found Pitettes Whole Wheat pitas by Toufayan at Publix that I am going to use.  They are smaller than a regular pita.  I am going to put a bit of lettuce and then my awesome Homemade Caribbean Chicken Salad

  • 2 pounds chicken breast
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 2 ribs of celery
  • 1 small red bell pepper
  • 1 Anaheim pepper (don’t touch the seeds!)
  • 1 cup red seedless grapes (diced)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon lim zest
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • Mojo marinade (or zesty italian if you don’t have Publix)

Marinate your chicken in mojo/italian for 2-4 hours and then grill.  Dice up veges and mix in large bowl.  Add zests, cilantro, garlic powder, mustard & grapes.  Add cooled diced chicken.  Add mayo, salt & pepper.  Mix and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.  I like to let it simmer overnight.

Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe

  • 8 ounces of cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup of ranch or blue cheese salad dressing (I used blue cheese at the shower)
  • 1/2 cup of hot sauce (I used Franks Hot Sauce)
  • 1/2 cup of crumbled blue cheese or shredded mozzarella cheese (I used mozzarella)
  • 2 cans (9.75 oz each) of chicken breast in water

Heat oven at 350.  Beat cream cheese until smooth (I heat it up for a second in the microwave).  Mix in salad dressing, hot sauce and cheese.  Add chicken.  Bake 20 minutes or until it is a little crispy on top.  I serve it with celery sticks and crackers.

For dessert I want to do individual blueberry tarts (blue for a BOY), but I’m not sure how difficult those will be to make…

  • 4 oz of cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
  • blueberries

Beat cream cheese until smooth.  Add cream, zest and sugar and beat until smooth again.  Then put in your pastries!  I bought premade ones from Kroger and know they have  “Ready Crusts” from Keebler at Publix.

And then I am going to do a spiked lemonade!  Just because momma can’t drink, doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t!  It’s cute and yellow – so that is acceptable for a BOY baby shower.  But wine glasses may be tricky.  I am hosting it at her home (I live in Atlanta, she is in Ohio) and I don’t know that other people have the same extensive wine glass collection that I do…

I am going to use Trader Joe’s green label Prosecco (it is my favorite and its cheap – $8).  Then for every two bottles of Prosecco, and 1 thing of frozen lemonade.  Easy and yummy.

I know this is a bit ridiculous… but I think they are way cute…
